Les maquettes Bandai au 1/48 - 1/48 scale Bandai models
De 1972 à 1974, la firme japonaise Bandai a produit une remarquable série de maquettes de véhicules militaires au 1/48 en polystyrène. Ces maquettes étaient très détaillées pour l'époque et même de nos jours et consituent de très beaux modèles. Une de leur caractéristiques notables est que l'intérieur des véhicules était détaillé: moteur, canon, poste de pilotage, etc, permettant ainsi de créer des dioramas avec les trappes ouvertes. Ces kits étaient fournis avec des figurines d'assez bonne qualité. Une gamme de figurines supplémentaires et d'éléments de dioramas a également été commercialisée.

A titre personnel, je m'étonne et je regrette que Bandai n'ai pas produit de kits de char japonais dans cette collection.
On peut reprocher à ces kits la mauvaise qualité des chenilles: les chenilles en vinyle sont difficiles à installer et peu réalistes car elles sont généralement trop tendues, rendant ainsi impossible l'aspect "lourd" des chenilles notamment sur les modèles ayant de grosses chenilles comme le Tigre. La coque est parfois difficile à assembler sur le chassis mais il peut s'agir de déformations dûes à l'age de la maquette.

Certains de ces kits furent ensuite réédités sous les marques Fuman et Frog. Des rumeurs sur une possible réédition de ces kits ressortent régulièrement sur internet surtout depuis que Tamiya a relancé les kits au 1/48 mais jusqu'à présent, rien de concret ne s'est produit.
La société Gasoline a produit plusieurs kits de conversion pour les maquettes Bandai: Sturmtiger, Bishop, KV-2, T34-85, Brummbar, etc.
Plus de 30 ans après, ces kits sont toujours recherchés et atteignent parfois des prix très élevés sur eBay même si depuis la sortie des kits Tamiya, les prix ont tendance à baisser.

From 1972 to 1974, the japanese company Banday produced a remarkable tank models serie at 1/48 scale made of polystyren. Thoses models were higly detailed considering the age and even for now, they remain very nice models. One of their main characteristic was that the interior of vehicles was detailled: motor, gun, driving compartment, etc allowing to make nice dioramas with open hatches. Also nice figurines where included with tanks. More figurines and diorama elements were also available in separate boxes.

I regret and I am surprised that Bandai did not produced any japanese tanks in this range.
The main defect is the low quality of the vinyl tracks: it is hard to place and not realistic as you cant render the "heavy" look, especially on heavy tracks like Tiger. The hull is sometimes hard to fix on the basis but it may be caused by age deformations.
Some of those kits were re-issued under Fuman and Frog brands. Rumors about a possible reissue are common on the internet especially since Tamiya started to produce 1/48 scale tanks kits but for now, nothing happened.

After more than 30 years, many people are still looking for those kits and sometimes you can see very high prices on eBay. Since Tamiya kits are available, prices are getting lower.
